Health and Fitness
At the Augusta Boys and Girls Club for Teens, we believe maintaining physical fitness should be part of your lifestyle. For many young adults, fitness is a focus only for those who participate in team sports in school. Since team sports are often abandoned once a person leaves high school or college, we concentrate on helping young people develop interest and skill in physical activities that can become lifelong pursuits.
We are guided in this effort by the interests and desires of our teens. Physical activities have included:
- Walking
- Biking excursions
- Kayaking at lakes and local parks
- Skateboarding
- Football and kickball in the fields "out back"
White Water Rafting was a popular excursion this summer, and will most likely be offered next summer as well. Don't miss your chance to take a rafting trip of a lifetime!.
Staff and teens participate in the community-wide Underage Drinking Workgroup, sponsored by the Healthy Communities of the Capital Area. The Teen Center hosts meetings and provides input from youth that attend the club, shaping adult perceptions of the problems surrounding youth who drink illegal beverages.
